Early, 6:30pm on this Saturday evening and ambiance was about right. We have been here later when noise level is well beyond comfortable for two dining to carry a conversation. The interior is lovely and the food was outstanding. Burgers cooked over open flame and chard to perfection. Pot roast was exceptional. Would eat here again just would be sure to check the evening crowd and noise level before dining. - 10/04/2026

I came in during what I would assume was the lunch rush yesterday with two companions. The food wasn’t exactly what I expected but was still very good. I had the lobster ravioli, but the Brussels sprouts were a bit overcooked but still, tasted good. Our waitress was so tentative and kept apologizing as she seemed to get a lot of tables at one time as I looked around and saw her, I was shocked she was keeping all 6 tables I could see’s drinks refilled, as well as ours. I spilled some on my food and my server I think her name was Tracey or Casey I really believe it was Tracey, either way she got me a ride pen. She was so kind to stand there and talk to me because her accent warmed my heart and made me feel at home. Thank you all so very much what a great establishment, staff, and service! Every time we’re in Cincinnati, we go to this restaurant. It’s fantastic. The Scottish/Irish cuisine is true to form and quite good. The weight staff is fantastic and while you’re there, try Guinness beer. - 9/26/2026

1st time attending Nicholson's, but we were late for our reservation due to traffic. We asked for a booth and were told in an email that we had one reserved, but being late was my fault and understood if booth was not held. Food quality was excellent but running out of the sirloin entree was a little off-putting since the entree selections were limited. Noise level was a bit much but the physical location to P&G hall for musical could not have been more convenient. - 9/24/2026

Came here for restaurant week. The baked goat cheese appetizer was the best part of the meal for me. We also had the fish and shrimp, and lobster ravioli. The shrimp with the cocktail sauce were so plump and flavorful. Lemon marscapone cake was heavenly. The drink selection is EXTENSIVE. Definitely had a nice European vibe. We made a reservation, but there were plenty of open tables on a Monday night. Would return next time we're in Cincinnati craving a Magners cider! - 9/22/2026 

We stopped at Nicholson's for lunch before a show at the Aronoff, and the location couldn't be more convenient. Our server, Lainey, was wonderful--friendly, pleasant, and very attentive despite being incredibly busy with the pre-theater crowd. She kept checking on us, and our food arrived promptly. She was definitely the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately, the shepherd's pie was a real disappointment. In a Scottish restaurant surrounded by plaid, I expected something traditional. Instead, it contained green peppers and appeared to be meat filling topped with a single scoop of mashed potatoes rather than an actual baked shepherd's pie. The Caesar salad was mediocre, although the unexpected side salad was quite good. I would return for the convenient location and Lainey's excellent service, but definitely not for the shepherd's pie. This shepherds pie is different than other pics submitted in yelp reviews. 4 stars because of Lainey it it with have been less stars. - 9/20/2026

We have eaten at Nicholson's a good number of times and we love the lively atmosphere. Our server could not have been better - friendly, professional, polite and efficient. Within minutes of ordering, I received a call. Our presence was required elsewhere. Our server (Tracy, I believe) and the chef took superb care of us! Our meals were carefully boxed up and we were sent on our way. The food, consumed later, at home, was delicious. And I will never forget the kindness and efficiency of the staff. The lamb was a bit undercooked and surprisingly served over a bed of risotto (which honestly was good). Atmosphere is nice enough now that they have changed the music to be more traditional than heavy rock. - 9/13/2026
